Following the disappointment at Eibar last Monday, a big performance was needed in front of the home fans at Nuevo Los Cármenes against Real Betis on Friday night in LaLiga. Urged on by the fans, the Granada CF team duly delivered with not only an excellent display on the pitch, but with a resounding 4-1 victory, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Real Betis looked to dominate play in the opening stage of the game, but as Granada CF settled into the rhythm of the game, swift and precise counter-attacks proved decisive. When the opening goal came in the 18th minute, it was via a perfect through ball from Wakaso deep in midfield, picking out the run of Carcela who applied the finish with aplomb.

The lead was doubled in the 28th minute. Héctor pressuring the Betis fullback into a mistake, then busting clear wide on the left to fire in a cross that found its target, the head of Colombian striker Adrián Ramos. His first LaLiga goal for Granada CF. The third arrived shortly after in the 33rd minute. Carcela again a thorn in the side of the visiting defence, cracking off a low shot that Adán could only parry, with Andreas Pereira arriving to drive home the finish.

Three goals to the good at the break, the team was keen to keep pushing for more in the second half. When the fourth Granada CF goal came in the 64th minute, Adrián Ramos demonstrated the importance of persistence. Receiving the ball on the edge of the area he rode the challenge of one defender, then the Betis keeper diving at his feet and even though he was losing his balance, still managed to make the all important finishing touch.

That wasn't the end of the action. A touchline scuffle saw both sides reduced to ten men. Nahuel dismissed for slapping Andreas Pereira and the Granada midfielder receiving a second yellow card for his reaction. Betis found some consolation with a 75th minute goal by Petros, but by then, the margin was to great for the visitors to mount any recovery.

For Granada CF, a great result, superb overall performance and three more important points towards our objective. Not only that, belief restored amongst fans and players alike, that the team can maintain its top-flight status again this season. The battle to do exactly that, continues...
